Fresh from winning Favorite Album (Breakthrough) and Favorite Collaboration (Down For Me feat. Fern.) at the 32nd Awit Awards, Asia's Pop Diva Julie Anne San Jose proves herself once again with her latest comeback single, "Isang Gabi." Upon its release, the track debuted at #1 on the iTunes Philippines all-genre chart, another record for Julie's book, with her previous releases "Regrets," "Breakthrough" album and it's singles ("Tayong Dalawa" and "Nothing Left") sharing the same success. The two artists were also featured as the cover of Spotify's New Music Friday Philippines playlist Produced and written by OPM rock icon Rico Blanco, the track brings Julie into the shoes of the "third party" in someone else's relationship, as it explores themes of forbidden love and longing for someone you can't have. Aside from the unique point of view the singer-songwriter puts herself in for the first time, the music it is set to brings forth a unique mix of musical styles — featuring the Pinoy jukebox style of hugot, and putting some modern synth elements as well, resulting into a fresh yet familiar sound audiences would relate to. Talking about the collaboration, Julie says "I was so excited to work on this song with Rico, who's one of the greats in the industry, and the resulting track is something we're excited to share to all OPM fans out there." Isang Gabi is now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and Amazon Music under Universal Records.

With the rise of OPM comes the power to shed light to issues that aren’t usually talked about.Bita and the Botflies did just that by releasing their music video for their latest single ‘Peklat Cream’, following the release of their album of the same name.Packaged with groovy tunes and some cold vocal power, the music video totally aligned with the band’s direction with its combination of bright and dark visuals set in a vintage mood. Starred by Chynna Ortaleza-Cipriano, her eyes told stories that are usually kept in silence by distraught domestic abuse victims. Don’t miss out on this one helluva music video:

Well, it’s a heartbreaker but at least the waves could calm those out.     Singer-songwriter Rice Lucido just released her latest music video under O/C Records. Directed by Gali Te, the visuals served some ultimate calm sunset-y vibes. But the same sunsets could also give a different meaning—putting an end to what was once a lovely day. Still, the music video for ‘Sabi Nila’ portrayed it beautifully.   Watch the music video for ‘Sabi Nila’ here:

Alternative outfit Madeline just released their music video for their latest single, ‘Tinamaan’—and it’s exactly how those butterflies in your stomach works.     Upon listening to the track, you may notice a slight resemblance to Randy Santiago’s classic hit ‘Babaero’ but this track’s lyrics say otherwise: it’s more of what goes on in your head when you go smitten over someone.   The music video was shot in a very cute setting—in Bearseum located in Tagaytay City (which explains the tremendous amount of fluffiness and playful vibes in the video)—by Promethean Motives.   Check out ‘Tinamaan’ here:

One of Cebu City’s well-beloved bands, Drive Me to Juliet, is coming to Manila for their first-ever headline bar tour and music video launch in the capital, aptly titled “Universe: Live in Manila”, since forming in 2009. The new music video, “Universe”, is also DMTJ’s first single off their upcoming second album due for release later this year. The music video launch tour will run across three key cities in Metro Manila, and is the band’s first production effort outside Cebu.Best known for their schmaltzy songwriting about love, hope, and relationships as in “Saving Glass Heart” juxtaposed to feel-good and laid-back pop tunes featured in “Maybe It’s Better” or alongside raw, grungy undertones like in “Absence of Understanding”, Drive Me has driven hundreds of fans all over the country with their distinctive music and relatable, down-to-earth personalities. Composed of the Racho siblings Kaye, Randy, and Ken (mic and guitars, respectively), and joined by their childhood friends Isser (bass) and Rhan (drums), the elusive quintet’s first major gig in Manila didn’t happen until 2013; according to some members, had they not taken the risk and performed at Rakrakan Festival that year, they would have probably given up as a band. Since then, Drive Me to Juliet has been a staple at the annual OPM gathering, gaining the opportunity to perform and share their songs to a larger audience and reconnect with their avid Tagalog listeners every once a year. Apart from the festival, the band had also played live in schools such as at DLSU’s Green FM radio station and on online platforms Rappler Live Jam, Inquirer POP, and Rakista Radio.Catch “Universe: Live in Manila” at the following dates and venues: October 18 – 70’s Bistro, Anonas, Quezon City with Gracenote, The Republicats, Calebral, and Gin Rum & Truth October 19 – Social House, Circuit Lane, Circuit Makati, Makati City with SUD, Bita and The Botflies, Jana Garcia, and Break Offenders (also from Cebu City) October 22 – 12 Monkeys, El Pueblo, Ortigas, Pasig City with Saydie, Rouge, CHNDTR, and TamaraShow starts at 8PM. Pre-sale tickets are available at P300 per head and 3 for P800 until October 16. For ticket reservations, send a message to SX Manila on Facebook or contact 09275629670 / 09175575945. Mentored by some of the country’s most iconic songwriters and sought after young artists, 26 promising singer-songwriters were able to enhance their musical potential at the latest staging of the PhilPop Bootcamp 2019 that took place from September 24 to 27 at Purok Marcela and Oldwood beach resorts in Lingayen, Pangasinan. PhilPop Executive Director Dinah Remolacio said that the PhilPop Bootcamp was borne out of the need to give more regional songwriters an opportunity to be part of the country’s premier songwriting competition. “We noticed that most of the PhilPop winners from 2012 to 2016 were from Metro Manila. There’s nothing wrong with that. But we also wanted to diversify PhilPop as music from the country’s provincial regions have their own distinct flavor and characteristics. We felt compelled to strengthen and empower these regional songwriters by giving them a platform for their music and to use education as an instrument to create more songs that can add to the treasure trove of Original Pilipino Music,” Remolacio pointed out. Given the opportunity and much to the delight of the Bootcamp’s coaches, most of these up-and-coming regional songwriters have responded favorably to PhilPop’s call as many of the 26 Fellows in the Pangasinan Bootcamp came from Northern and Southern Luzon. Strong batch of Fellows with high potential National Artist and Ramon Magsaysay awardee Ryan Cayabyab who helped pioneer PhilPop and remains one of its staunchest champions is excited for this batch of Fellows. “On the first day alone, we were already impressed with some of our Fellows. I can imagine we will discover more of these promising talented songwriters that we’re looking for. We will train them, share with them everything we know and provide them with the tools they need so that hopefully they leave the workshop with renewed and inspired lives to create new songs for the country,” enthused The Maestro, who kicked off the Bootcamp with an enlightening talk on Why Do We Write Songs. As Bootcamp Master, Cayabyab led a Dream Team of coaches that included equally celebrated composers like Jim Paredes (who gave an inspiring talk on Enhancing Your Creativity: Inspiring your Music Journey), Noel Cabangon (Songwriting Exercises and Lyric Writing for Advocacies), Trina Belamide (How Do We Start a Song?, Copyright and Basic Music Publishing), Gary Granada (Lyric Writing) and Jungee Marcelo (Writing Melody and Lyrics). These OPM legends worked side-by-side indefatigable arranger Marlon Barnuevo (Music Arrangement) as well as previous PhilPop winners Davey Langit, who together with the inseparable tandem of Thyro Alfaro & Yumi Lacsamana and twins Miguel and Paolo Guico of acoustic sensations Ben&Ben covered the topic, My Approach to Songwriting as they all shared their wealth of experience and tried-and-tested techniques to the mesmerized Fellows. Journalist Tina Arceo-Dumlao of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and author of the book, “Himig at Titik: A Tribute to Songwriters” also enlightened the mostly millennial participants of the Bootcamp with some valuable history lessons as she talked about The Story of OPM. Other topics covered during the Bootcamp include Digital Music Streaming and Music Video Production. Song Critique key to better songwriting Trina Belamide said one of the key activities in the PhilPop Bootcamp is the Song Critiquing that allows coaches to give their inputs on the Fellows’ individual compositions. “The Bootcamp is very output-oriented. We get to critique songs written by the Fellows that they could submit to PhilPop next year. Having us coaches critique their songs will give them the advantage of further improving and enhancing their work,” Belamide pointed out. Davey Langit agrees with Belamide in stressing the importance of song critique in the Bootcamp. “There are many factors that come into consideration when writing a song that in the context of PhilPop, can be considered as competition-worthy. More than just a marriage of melody and lyrics, there is also the arrangement, the story the composers are trying to tell and the message and emotions they wants to convey,” Langit explained. A little more push Noel Cabangon sees a lot of potential in this batch of Bootcamp Fellows. “They just need a little more push but this is why we have these workshops—to make them realize that songwriting is not something they can do out of sheer impulse. There are also certain considerations as they also need to be conscious of the lyrics, the melody and the rhythm. But many of them were able to present well during the exercises and I personally thought that collaborating with their group mates will go a long way in enhancing their skills,” Cabangon noted. As for the 26 Fellows, each of whom are now assured of a slot in the Top 300 submissions in next year’s PhilPop festival, all of them are thrilled to learn from the masters and take their craft to the next level. The Fellows speak “I expected the Bootcamp to teach me a lot but it actually taught me more than I expected it would. It went beyond the basics and helped me arrange my thoughts so it became clearer to me to understand why I’m doing this,” noted budding tunesmith Stephanie Lavoie. Pauline Lauron, who worked as a Junior Artist and Repertoire producer for a record label and an alumna of the groundbreaking Elements Music Camp that inspired the PhilPop Bootcamp, said she joined the camp to get a “refresher course” as she stopped writing songs for a while. “I will definitely write more songs after this Bootcamp. It’s very heartening to see the willingness and the excitement to learn on the part of my fellow campers and their openness to absorb anything that’s discussed here,” quipped Lauron who currently works as a freelance back-up singer. Christian “Ian” Dumaplin, who has been a professional musician since 2003, admitted that for all his experience, he still learned a lot from the PhilPop Bootcamp. “More than anything, I also found it very inspiring to be in the company of my fellow songwriters and at the same time be encouraged by my accomplished coaches,” he beamed. PhilPop Bootcamp 2019 is an initiative of the PhilPop Music Foundation, chaired by Mr. Manny V. Pangilinan. This year's PhilPop is co-presented by SMART, MERALCO, and MAYNILAD and is supported by the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC), the local government unit of Lingayen, Pangasinan and venue partners Oldwood Resort and Purok Marcela.

  • Mentored by some of the country’s most iconic songwriters and sought after young artists, 26 promising singer-songwriters were able to enhance their musical potential at the latest staging of the PhilPop Bootcamp 2019 that took place from September 24 to 27 at Purok Marcela and Oldwood beach resorts in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Four-time GRAMMY® Award-winning group Boyz II Men is heading back to Asia and performing in Manila, returning from a U.S. tour and residency in Las Vegas at The Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The group, consisting of founding members, Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris, will bring a lively show, including fan-favorite songs like, I’ll Make Love to You, Motownphilly, End of the Road and more, along with new show elements on stage. “We’re so excited to be going back to Manila and bringing the Boyz II Men show to the fans who always greet us with so much warmth and we look forward to showing them some of the new skills that we’re bringing to the stage.” For their Manila concert, the legendary R&B trio will be performing on December 12 at Resort World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater. Boyz II Men hold the distinction of being the most commercially successful R&B group of all time with three No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, selling over 64 million albums worldwide. They had engraved three of the longest-running No. 1 pop singles in history -- End of the Road, spending thirteen full weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, which historically concluded the decades-old record held by Elvis Presley, subsequently followed by I’ll Make Love To You with a 14-week reign. The third No. 1 is One Sweet Day with Mariah Carey which ruled the Billboard chart for a total of sixteen weeks, an all-time record they had held until August of this year. In September 2019, Boyz II Men commemorate the 25th year anniversary of the record that cemented their status as music royalty, the 12x platinum, triple Grammy Award-winning album II. Although the Boyz have consistently toured across the United States and around the globe, performing a mix of their latest tracks and treasured classics, venues continue to sell out to the rim. The reason is abundantly clear – for the past two decades, Boyz II Men have given fans a rich catalogue of hits filled with soothing harmonies and unparalleled vocal excellence. More accomplishments lead the iconic a capella group to pop culture ubiquity, along with 3 Billboard Music Awards, 9 American Music Awards, 9 Soul Train Awards, a 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and in 2012, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Boyz II Men’s other chart-topping hits are On Bended Knee, Water Runs Dry, A Song For Mama, and 4 Seasons of Loneliness, among others. Boyz II Men Live in Manila 2019 is presented by Ovation Productions on its 40th Year Promoting the Biggest Names in Live Entertainment, in cooperation with TAP Edge: The Home of Live Action Sports.       5-piece metal band Killerweil brings the house down while campaigning for anti-bullying with their latest single ‘Kalasag’.     Killerweil is comprised of Weil Ylagan on vocals, Chislon Bolanos and Jeriel Fajutagana on guitars, Cyro Albino/Popo Belez on bass, and Regin Nolasco on drums.   According to Ylagan, ‘Kalasag’ “came from a concept where your initial reaction from getting bullied is covering yourself. You “shield” yourself. But just as you cover, the hurt still goes — physical, mental, emotional. “Paliparin ang kalasag” is a phrase where you make yourself the shield to make a weapon out of it. It doesn’t mean to strike back or to get revenge. It motivates the victim to stand up, shove the dirt, and make use of his/her personal expressions to battle out his hurtful experiences.” The frontman also stated that it was music who helped them cope up and regain their self-esteem hence choosing it as a channel for expression.   Well, nothing beats a song with a great advocacy. Swaying from the heavy, melodic tunes of pop punk, Now You Make Me Angry and TNG frontman Francis Alden Mallo gets on the conquest of fusing rap and metal into a new side production under the name FAKER.   On Monday, FAKER released his debut track with Peculiar Records ‘DTHWSH’ and it’s a promising, heavy tune that certainly distinguishes the line between his previous projects. According to FAKER, it’s something new that could influence or inspire the youth that intersections between two different genres are possible.   Listen to ‘DTHWSH’ here:     Article photo from Kenneth de Guzman.

Woodstock just turned fifty and the idea of that annual three-day celebration of peace, love and music in the Catskill Mountains in New York still never felt so old. Hundreds of thousands were in attendance then, all for the event's spiritual alignment with the anti-war movement. And just like before, MUSIC UNITES! Spearheaded by AdCamp, MAKE COLLAB NOT WAR, a concert tour, was launched October last year, in the aim to establish a collaboration amongst local venues, productions and artists from different parts of the country. And this year, they are bringing it back with more venues. From Balanga City, Bataan to the cities of Metro Manila (Quezon City and BGC), Pagsanjan, Laguna in the South all the way to Baguio City, Cauayan City and Tuguegarao City in the North, up and coming, local independent musicians will once again share the stage to promote ‘bayanihan’ in the coolest possible way. Bands like The MotherCampers (OPM/indie rock), Bread & Butter (alternative rock), Friends’ Fries (pop rock), Newearth Primates (prog metal/hardcore), Rezpike (thrash metal), Blood Shot Eyes (metal), solo acts such as Clay (indie/pop) and Alvin Mendoza (OPM/pop rock), and many more, are coming to these cities and towns to celebrate peace, love and music. To watch out for their shows, you may check their Facebook pages: fb.com/adcampteam and fb.com/makecollabnotwar to keep you posted on the tour dates, event posters and live feeds. And lastly, to everyone, Make Collab Not War!!   TOUR DATES: October 12 - Tomatokick, Tomas Morato, Quezon City October 18 - Exhibit C, Balanga City, Bataan November 2 - Skinny Mike’s, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig November 15 - The Garage Food and Art Hub, Dagupan City, Pangasinan November 30 - Dapip, Pagsanjan, Laguna December 6 - Tumauini, Isabela December 7 - Tuguegarao City, Cagayan December 8 - Santa Ana, Cagayan December 14 - Baguio City, Benguet December 21 - Docville Foodpark, Cauayan City, Isabela

The country’s love for local art and music continuously keeps pouring in, as the new breed of artists joined the evolving Filipino culture pool. Rad, Bold, Self aware, these new artists used their platform to educate and spread awareness to the community, challenging the Filipino’s (traditional) way of thinking.     A group of young independent filmmakers, who founded Nazars Films, composed of Gayle Oblea, Christian Samoy, Christopher Dimagan, and Bien Loriezo —partnered up with Alternative Indie Rock band Calein.Nazars gave a bold, yet artistic approach to the band’s new single “Umaasa” giving you those nostalgic chills of your unrequited love. Think of city lights, rain on windows, sun rays, yeah... you get the picture! The song was a perfect fit to the filmmakers’ deep and warm visual interpretation of the song, leaving us with a powerful lesson. “Love who YOU love. You can never put the word ‘should’ in there.”Director Gayle Oblea said.     In a nutshell, the video will take you to a whirlwind of emotions, combined with expressive colours and stunning visuals! Watch the official launch of Calein’s “Umaasa” on September 28, 2019(Saturday), 7PMat the Upperhouse,BGC, Taguig City. You can catch it on MYX too! P.S. Bring tissues with you. You’ve been warned.   Interested to make a Music Video? Contact or book them through their Facebook page @nazarsfilms or call 09778312383
