Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" almost hit one billion views on YouTube

American rock band, Nirvana reaches almost one billion views for their official music video of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on YouTube. Currently, the music video has over 994 million views.


Smells Like Teen Spirit was released on September 24, 1991, and shot at Culver City Studios in California under David Geffen Company (DGC) records and originally written by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl.


This song was No.1 in Belgium, France, New Zealand, and Spain. It was also nominated two Grammys in 1993.  Many well- known artists like Miley Cyrus, Patii Smith, Paul Ankaand Tori Amos covered this song. Some artists like Weird Al Yankovic did a version with a title, “Smells Like Nirvana” with 33,000 views on YouTube.


Previously, “Sweet Child o’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses was the first 1980’s video to reach 1 billion views in October 2019.
