What is the Staying Alive campaign and how is MTV connected to it?

The Staying Alive campaign, which was launched in 1998, is a partnership between MTV Networks International, Family Health International’s YouthNet, Kaiser Family Foundation, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Joint United Nations Programme for HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). It is a multimedia award-winning awareness and prevention campaign that seeks to help prevent HIV/AIDS by empowering the youth to protect themselves, fight stigma and discrimination, and engage businesses, media and organizations to form their own response to HIV/AIDS.

This multimedia global campaign includes long-form programming, such as documentaries, concert events, discussion programmes and made for TV movies, public service announcements, sexual behaviour polls, a dedicated, multi-lingual web site (http://www.staying-alive.org), and off-air marketing and grassroots promotions.

• What is the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS?

MTV Philippines is proud to be part of the global Staying Alive campaign, and has shown its support since 2003 through the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS – a massive concert that features the biggest names in music, entertainment and sports.

Also seen as a celebration of life, the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS serves as a call for everyone to take a united stand against the ignorance that prevails about HIV/AIDS. Working closely with UN AIDS, DOH and Philippine National AIDS Council, the event's main goal is to send out key messages and create a greater awareness about HIV/AIDS through the universal language of music.

Date: Wednesday, December 3, 2008
Time: Gates open at 3 pm; Pre-show begins at 4 pm; Main show begins at 6 pm.

• What is the focus of this year’s campaign?
While MTV continues to promote HIV/AIDS awareness by providing the necessary information that is essential to HIV/AIDS prevention, this year, the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS will take it a step further by encouraging the youth to talk about it, freely and correctly. It’s the first time that MTV is placing the emphasis on why and how we should talk about it, seeing open communication as a step to further our awareness.

Help create a healthy and caring world. Learn about AIDS, ask questions, talk about it. Spread the Message, not the Virus.

• Apart from the concert, what else is MTV Philippines doing in line with the campaign?

Public Service Announcements and On-air specials

Public service announcements, on-air specials, and artist bytes (from both local and international artists) with key messages on HIV/AIDS will be airing regularly on MTV Philippines in preparation for World AIDS Day.

There are several ways to get your FREE ticket:

1) MTV Office – Come and visit the MTV Office from November 26 to December 3. Just present any red item to get your free tickets.
2) MTV Online –Log on to http://www.mtvphil.com and simply answer the question to get a chance to win free tickets.

NOTE: All tickets have to be claimed during office hours (9am to 6pm) at the MTV Office at the Silver City Mall, Frontera Verde Drive along Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig.
