On this day in 1994, rock icon Kurt Cobain committed suicide inside his home in Seattle, Washington in 1994. On March 4 of that year, Cobain was taken to hospital in a coma. It was officially stated as an accident but many believe it to have been an unsuccessful suicide attempt or heroin overdose. He reluctantly checked into a rehabilitation clinic in Los Angeles at the end of March, but was said to have fled after only a few days.On April 8, Cobain's body was found in his home. In his arms was a shotgun, which had been fired into his head. Near him laid a suicide note written in red ink. It was addressed to his wife Courtney Love and his daughter Frances Bean Cobain. On his suicide note, he quoted Neil Young’s lyric that it was “better to burn out than to fade away.”

Pulp Summer Slam 18: Of Good and Evil

BEHEMOTH, AT THE GATES, AND CRADLE OF FILTH
HEADLINE PULP SUMMER SLAM 18: OF GOOD AND EVIL

PULP LIVE WORLD proudly announces the full line-up of PULP SUMMER SLAM 18: OF GOOD AND EVIL. The 18th edition of Southeast Asia’s longest-running metal festival takes place on May 5, 2018 at Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City. The line-up boasts of 13 international bands and 3 of our very own, making it the largest international roster in the festival’s history. Headlining the festival are metal gods BEHEMOTH, AT THE GATES, and CRADLE OF FILTH, while supporting acts DEATH ANGEL, CROWN THE EMPIRE, JINJER, ATTILA, CRYSTAL LAKE, NERVECELL, SECRETS, FLESH JUICER, BURNING ISLAND, and BLOODY TYRANT complete the globally diverse list. The local acts include SKYCHURCH, TYPECAST, and VALLEY OF CHROME.
Making their Manila debut is Poland’s blackened death metal legends BEHEMOTH. The band is currently comprised of guitarist and vocalist Adam “Nergal” Darski, drummer Zbigniew “Inferno” PromiƄski, bassist Tomasz “Orion” Wróblewski, and guitarist Patryk “Seth” Sztyber. With their albums like Satanica, Demigod, and their most recent, The Satanist, not only did they have a significant role in the development of the Polish underground metal scene, but also extreme metal as a whole.
Also making their Manila debut is Sweden’s AT THE GATES. One of the bands that were at the forefront of the melodic death metal movement with their seminal albums Terminal Spirit Disease and Slaughter of the Soul, the band is currently comprised of vocalist Tomas Lindberg, drummer Adrian Erlandsson, bassist Jonas Björler, rhythm guitarist Martin Larsson, and lead guitarist Jonas Stålhammar.
After giving their Filipino fans a taste of their brand of symphonic black metal back in Pulp Summer Slam XV: Angels Descend, England’s CRADLE OF FILTH – who are hot on the heels of their latest full-length Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay - are making their much-awaited return. The band is currently comprised of vocalist Dani Filth, drummer Martin “Marthus” Škaroupka, bassist Daniel Firth, keyboardist Lindsay Schoolcraft, guitarist Richard Shaw, and guitarist Marek “Ashok” Šmerda.
For the supporting acts, two more bands are about to make their return to the Slam. Thrash metal legends DEATH ANGEL, who are known for their anthems “Bored,” “Thrown to the Wolves,” and “Truce” among others, are coming back for the fourth time, while Dubai-based technical death metal band NERVECELL, who just came out with their latest album Past, Present… Torture, will be coming back for the second time. Also in the line-up are acts that are making their Slam debut. Hailing from Ukraine, JINJER is a progressive metal band with hard-hitting hardcore and groove metal influences. From Japan comes CRYSTAL LAKE, known for their djent-infused metalcore sound. Hailing from America are metalcore bands SECRETS, CROWN THE EMPIRE, and ATTILA. Secrets are known for their equally melodic
and heavy sound, while Crown The Empire have caught the attention of many with their anthemic hard rock leanings. Attila have amassed a strong following across the globe with the integration of rap in their sound and their uncompromising and no-holds-barred attitude.
Making the Slam even bigger are three bands bringing in more Asian metal to the mix. With the triple threat of FLESH JUICER, BURNING ISLAND, and BLOODY TYRANT just added to the lineup, the Slam presents the best that Taiwan’s metal scene can offer.
As for the local acts, metal statesmen and local legends SKYCHURCH head the trio. To add more musical diversity, TYPECAST are added into the mix as the only representatives of emo in the whole festival. VALLEY OF CHROME, one of the driving forces of modern pinoy heavy metal, completes the list.
This year’s Slam isn’t just largest international line up yet—it’s also the most globally diverse, drawing talent from different corners of the world.
