presents

THE 1ST OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SOUTH CONFERENCE 2017

Dear OT Colleague,
It is with joy and pride to announce to you the 1st OT South Conference 2017 this coming October 2017.
The OT South Con 2017 is a project of the Master of Arts in OT graduate students of Cebu Doctors University
Graduate School. Every year, all MAOT graduate students learn to work together towards a common goal
through a big event to promote occupational therapy practice, meet the local and individual professional practice
needs while learning to complement each other's strengths and diversity. Master of Arts in OT graduate students
are composed of OT professionals coming from different OT schools across the country and outside the country,
from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The main purpose of the the first OT South Con 2017 is to promote occupational therapy practice while
meeting local, individual professional OT practice needs by bringing together OT professionals and experts from
different places to build bridges, collaborations, and partnerships. The date October 27th was chosen to support
the WFOT celebration of the World OT Day 2017. Furthermore, to advocate for the profession, South Con 2017
supports the centennial celebration of the founding of occupational therapy. This is indeed an important and
historic event that we all have a strong reason to be part of.

The OT South Con 2017 had its' humble beginnings, from the OT Life Camp initiated by CDU BSOT
program back in 2011. This was later sustained by a joint collaboration between the BSOT and the MAOT project
of CDU graduate school. It was meant to be an exclusive event, intended only for CDU BSOT and MAOT
students. However, due to numerous requests and recommendations, the OT Life Camp 2016 opened its doors
to non-CDU OT students and graduates in 2016 during the 4th OT Life Camp.

Since the first batch of the MA in Occupational Therapy students graduated and became eligible for the
NBCOT, the MAOT program has helped several other BSOT graduates from different schools, earned their
MAOT degrees and eventually became eligible for the NBCOT. To date, our MAOT graduate students are
composed of gifted, talented and passionate individuals who represents OT from at least 10 OT schools across
the country, from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It was never an easy journey for the program to get this far as
we saw 3 batches who have earned their degrees so far.

This year, to give back to the profession and say thank you for supporting the MAOT project, and in
celebration of 100 years of OT and the World OT Day, the OT South Con 2017 is now open to all OT students
and professionals who wants to be part of this historic event. This year, we feature three international OT icons
representing three continents and a combined OT practice experience from the field of education, community
development, disaster preparedness, political advocacy, and social activism and change. Bringing together their
more than 100 years of combined OT practice expertise, and with CPD CE units, we are bless to have Dr.
Madeleine Duncan (South Africa-Africa), Dr. Jennifer Creek (U.K.-Europe), Dr. Kit Sinclair (HK-Asia).
We invite you to join us, as we build bridges, celebrate and promote our profession, and work together to
see unity amidst diversity to meet the challenge of the next 100 years of OT. And as the famous writer Samuel
Johnson once said, " Nothing will ever be attempted if all objections need to be overcome."
For the profession, more professionals and more OTs in each city,

Genecio Miano Woo, DMin, OTRP
